• President Freeman called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.  She covered the AACA Vision and Norms.
  • President Freeman welcomed and introduced the speaker, Marcel Ngobe, Crime Prevention Officer, Franconia District Station who spoke with AACA members about the services and resources of the Franconia Station (Annandale Acres was switched from Mason District a few years ago). Officer Ngobe covered a wide variety of topics including neighborhood speeding, reporting illegal activity and the community policing approach.
  • Secretary certified a quorum of dues-paying members (Attendee list attached)
  • President introduced Officers: Jon Clark, Vice President; Diane Ditzler, Secretary, and Amy Whetzel, Treasurer
  • Old Business covered included:
    • Dues Proposal – Amy Whetzel motioned to increase yearly dues to $20.00 for CY2014. The motion was seconded by Jon Clark and all members in attendance voted in favor resulting in passage of the proposal.
    • Block Captains – Volunteers/Assignments were requested. Maria Romain volunteered as the Block Captain for Calvert Street. The responsibilities of the Block Captain include welcoming new neighbors, collecting contact information, and sharing news and events.
  • Committee reports
    • Land Use Issues
      • Street Paving update – Calvert St., Clemons Ct., and Auburn St. are scheduled for paving at some point between March and August of 2014. Members discussed the large pothole on Beverly St. near Backlick Rd. (in front of new house). Several members have called to have it fixed. Jacques Romain also sent a request to widen Calvert Street and a study is being done.
      • Community Pickup scheduled for Saturday July 13 – location for brush or bulk items is at the corner of Beverly and Calvert by the street sign – restrictions are posted on the Fairfax County website.
    • Events
      • Picnic Saturday, September 28 at the Freeman residence, 7232 Calvert Street
    • Budget
      • Treasurer’s Report was presented with all collections and disbursements. The rate of dues collection is going up. A member offered that members should have the ability to donate.
      • The 2013 Budget will be presented at the August General meeting.
    • New Committees:
      • Communications – Diane and Amy are putting together mailings/flyers.
      • Membership – Lynn Hoffman volunteered to chair. This committee will have a budget of $500 for welcome packages for new neighbors. Maria offered that Block Captains should be involved with this group.
      • Neighborhood Watch – Jon Clark is leading this committee.
      • By-laws: Jacques Romain volunteered to chair, with Amy, Jon and Carolyn all interested in being a part of this group. The initial meeting will occur sometime in the early summer, with a plan to circulate new draft and bring up for a vote at next meeting.
  • Elections
    • At-large Member – Jacques Romain volunteered to serve. Diane made a motion to accept Mr. Romain – Amy seconded. All in favor. At-large member will be present at board meetings and will vote in case of a tie.
    • General Election to be held at November meeting

    • Next AACA Quarterly Meeting – Tuesday, August 20
